“Whooping Crane Biology and Restoration”

"Whooping Crane Biology and Restoration" will describe the interesting life history and ecology of this endangered species, showing how restoration efforts (including teaching whoopers to migrate behind ultralight aircraft) are constructed to take advantage of the natural history of whooping cranes.

John French is Research Manager at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, in Laurel, MD, where the chicks that follow the ultralights are hatched and trained, before shipment to Necedah National Wildlife Refuge. Dr. French is a member of the Canada U.S. Whooping crane Recovery Team, and oversees the crane program at Patuxent as well as other research programs (Contaminants, National Museum curation).
